April 2019: Cyprus-Greece
May 22 – June 5, 2019
I just wanted to fill everyone in on my next mission. I was asked by Guenther Hess, of Rapid Church Planting, to join them for a mission to Thessaloniki, Greece. After praying about it I felt it was of the Lord and I will be joining this mission the last week of May, and the first week of June. I became familiar with Guenther and his organization last year.
The first part of the time will be spent on the island of Cyprus for a time of preparation and praying together and bonding as a team before we go into Greece for the main part of the mission. Here is what the schedule in Paphos, Cyprus looks like:
Day 1: Sitting at the cross; search me, O God
Day 2: Experiencing the resurrection life
Day 3: A day of fasting and waiting upon God
Day 4: Standing against the enemy in prayer, where the Holy Spirit leads us
Day 5: Go and share the gospel, evangelism in Paphos, prophetic sending time
It should be an interesting time to get to know Guenther better and the others I have gotten to know through online prayer with them on a regular basis. Many I have had prayer time with from around the world will be on this mission. One of the men has graciously given me his apartment to use while in Paphos. He will be in Ireland at the time. That is a huge help to offset the cost of the trip for me. I believe the Lord is leading me to do more with Guenther so this trip will also be a good time for ascertaining what our ministry relationship is to be.
It was beyond difficult to get flights to Cyprus and Thessaloniki easily from the US on the dates I needed to be in these places. Consequently, I ended up booking my long round trip flight first to Athens, Greece where I will spend two days before I travel on to Cyprus. This was a much cheaper way to get to Cyprus and allows me to experience a couple of days in Athens on my own, at my own expense. I will have one-way flights from Athens to Cyprus, Cyprus to Thessaloniki, and Thessaloniki to Athens, then back to the states from Athens via Canada and Chicago–whew! Makes me tired just thinking about it. This is also a longer trip than I usually take. When I fly into Cyprus I have rented a car to drive to Paphos. It should be about a 1 ½ hour drive along the coast so it should be a pretty drive.
Guenther, who is German, but lives in Cyprus for the time being, said of the time in Greece, “We pray that this is the beginning of the opening up of Europe for the gospel in a whole new dimension.” If you know anything about Europe’s Christianity these days hardly exists anymore. And yet at one time, these places were where Paul and other disciples traveled to and started great works for the Lord. We need to re-dig these wells of past Christianity and see them flowing freely again. We will also visit Katerini, Veria, Berea, and Mt. Olympus while in Greece to minister to churches in these various locations and make prophetic declarations at key places. I feel privileged to be a part of this strategic mission and covet your prayers before I go, while there, and even for a time after I return.
Thank you for your prayers. I love you all with deep and abiding love. When I think of the people I have met in these foreign countries that I have sown into and grown to love in such a short period of time, I am reminded I will have eternity to get to know them better if they make it to heaven and I have to believe they will find their way to Jesus and I will see them again. Most of you are not near, in proximity, to me either so I feel the same way about you all.
Someday we will spend eternity together and no one can take that away from us. Won’t that be a glorious time?! Reliving our time together fondly on earth but having our relationships be so enhanced in heaven because of where we are with new bodies and now sinless with the Lord Jesus nearby. Like the song says, “I can only imagine.”
Much love and many blessings, Leah
