Keys of Authority and Power! We Believe Then We See!

By Jorge Parrott

In the Kingdom of God, power and authority are not the same—though they often flow together, their sources and purposes are distinct. Understanding their difference is crucial for every believer, especially in these times of moral confusion and spiritual confrontation.

Salvation is a gift, but our relationship with God requires intentional effort and ongoing pursuit.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”
Matthew 7:21-23

We live in a day when light and darkness clash more openly than ever before. The Church must rise—not merely in noise, but in true authority and divine power, rooted in intimacy with the One who reigns.

Authority Comes from Proximity

Authority is not a spiritual gift, nor is it automatic. Authority is earned in the secret place—in tears, in obedience, in brokenness. It flows from proximity to the Father and Son, forged through submission, obedience, and trust.

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus… he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death.”
— Philippians 2:5–11

Jesus modeled ultimate authority through humility and alignment with the Father’s will. Because of this, demons fled, diseases disappeared, and storms obeyed.

All Authority Given to Jesus

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…”
— Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus now holds all authority, and He commissions us to walk in that same delegated authority to preach, heal, deliver, and disciple nations.

Dunamis and Exousia: Power vs. Authority

  • Power (dunamis) is a supernatural, miraculous force—a gift given by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
  • Authority (exousia) is judicial, legal, and governmental—the right to exercise dominion.

“Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy…”
— Luke 10:19

Demons may possess power, but they must obey authority. Authority commands; power executes. When a believer walks in divine authority, even the gates of hell must bow.

How Authority Is Lost

Authority is not maintained by titles or gifting. It is preserved by purity, obedience, and intimacy with God.

“Authority is lost when believers have things in common with darkness.”

Many are gifted like Samson, but have lost authority through compromise. When we walk in purity, authority flows like oil—unhindered and potent.

Jesus: Warrior King with All Authority

“The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is His name.”
— Exodus 15:3

Jesus is both Lamb and Lion. He is energized by battle, victorious in war, and commands His army with unshakable authority. His victories were won through submission, not compromise.

Real Christians in Real Battles

We are called to boldness and spiritual confrontation, not comfort and compromise. Real Christians:

  • Cast out demons at witch festivals
  • Bring peace into chaotic atmospheres
  • Shift regions through prayer

Authority terrifies hell. Power may impress, but authority brings dominion.

The Centurion’s Revelation of Authority

In Matthew 8, a centurion told Jesus:

“Only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority…”

This soldier recognized Jesus’ rank in the unseen realm, and his faith triggered a healing.

Healing vs. Miracles

  • Healing is the removal of something harmful (disease, demon, pain)
  • Miracle is the creation or regeneration of what was lost (organs, limbs, sight)

Sometimes, both are required: authority to remove; power to recreate.

Satan Lost Authority, But Retained Power

Satan fell and lost his authority, yet retained power. He operates through borrowed authority—gained when humans yield through sin, fear, or agreement.

Read James 1:7-8 and renew your mind daily.

Adam surrendered authority through sin; Jesus, the second Adam, regained it through obedience.

Now, we are co-heirs, called to rise in authority. Arise and shine!

Keys to Growing in Authority

If you desire to walk in greater authority:

  • Pursue intimacy with God (John 17:3)
  • Submit to the Word daily
  • Pray fervently and consistently
  • Live clean and separate from sin
  • Practice obedience—especially when it’s costly

Authority increases through submission.

Final Word: Authority Is Greater Than Power

Power may heal a body, but authority changes generations. Power may stir emotions, but authority transforms atmospheres.

Let us be a people forged in the fire of God’s presence, walking not only in gifts, but in divine authority—obedient, bold, and fearless.

“Authority is lost when believers have things in common with darkness; maintaining purity with God preserves authority.”

Let this truth burn in us as we walk closer with our King.
